My answers:

1.       I can’t stand when people say that you look great when you just got up and threw anything on, worked all day outside and then had to run to town to get something and didn't bother to change because you didn't think you'd run into anyone you knew.

2.       If you are going to volunteer to help with an event please show up.

3.       Call me a cheapskate because I'm always looking for ways to save on items.

4.       If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone whine about being broke, then turn around and pull out a credit card, I swear I’d be a millionaire by now.

Questions for Friday, May 4th:

1. What did you wear to prom? Include a picture if possible. It was a bridesmaid dress from my sister's wedding - it was purple and horrid.

2. Would you rather be on the biggest loser or a food eating challenge? biggest loser

3. Done fave sonic drink? Refreshing summer drink? (Hey, Kristina...was that a typo, or some "done good" Southern thing?) Can't say that I have - my favorite summer drink is the same as my winter drink - coffee!

4. What was your first car, and what did you call it? A 1964 Chevrolet Impalla SS - actually I guess that was not my first car. The first would have been a 1966 Opal Cadet which LITERALLY required you to check the gas and fill the oil. I bought it from my brother for $60. The Impalla was my first love - I named it "Pandora" (yes that is now my cat's name). That car took me everywhere!

5. What's one thing your child or spouse does that sends you over the edge?  My daughter used to open a cabinet door to get something and leave the door open! Drove me nuts!

This Week's prompt:  Siblings
 I grew up being the youngest of 4. My brother is the oldest, my sisters followed. We were all two years apart. The three of us girls did torment my brother a lot. I can remember catching him asleep and putting makeup on him - things like that.

My biggest memory of growing up is that of trying to follow in their footsteps. My sister who was two years older than me was very intelligent. In fact, she had close to a genius IQ. While I have never had much trouble with schoolwork, it did not come that easy for me. She never brought home a book - I would have stacks. I actually had teachers say to me that they didn't know why I didn't do better on something since my sister had excelled on it - in front of the whole class. Talk about embarrassing! But that changed when I was about 12.

I lost my oldest sister in a car accident when I was 12. Both me and my next sister were badly injured in the accident and in and out of hospitals for years after. For a while we had teachers come to the house so we wouldn't fall behind. I learned everything from her teachers at the same time she did - I really had no choice - I was in a hospital bed and couldn't get away. But it helped me breeze through high school.

A few years later, I ended up losing that sister to drugs so it is just me and my brother left. The older we get, the closer it seems that we get.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. My daughter2 is graduating from university this month and plans to teach elementary school. What are three qualities you most want to see evidenced in a teacher?

I'd say: creativity, origanization, and to actually like children.

5. What makes someone unforgettable?

I not sure, I don't think it's any one thing in particular but rather a lot of things all wrapped up together that makes someone unforgettable.

6. Should music and/or art be part of a well rounded education?

Definitely.

7. What social situations make you flustered and nervous?

I don't like bars or loud and raucous parties.

Chats on the Farmhouse Porch

My answers:

1. It used to be my dad - I could always count on him but he is gone now. I'd say that my daughter is probably my closest "confidant" these days.
2. Probably a couple of times a week during the summer months.
3. Beige
4. I just bought new living room furniture! My old couch/chairs were 15 years old and really showing it. The new is leather and is currently covered up with blankets and throws until I get #5 taken care of.
5. I have to call and get an appointment to get my younger cat (the Princess) de-clawed and she is so not going to like it! The queen was de-clawed years ago.

Tuesday Coffee Chat

 

 I'm joining the coffee chat again this morning! If you'd like to join, head over to Rory's at Time out for Mom. The topic is: Slang

Ok, I'm really not into the slang but I hear an awful lot of it. It kindof makes me cringe when I hear kids talking around campus. Makes me want to stop them and say, "Does your mother know you talk like that?"

Oh well - just a part of growing up I guess - we used a lot of slang when I was a kid. This may indeed be telling my age but does anybody remember:
Bomb-adj. to be hip, cool. ex. That guy has a bomb Chevelle.
Bitchen-cool, the all time best, good idea, "That bike is bitchen", or "Bitchen, let's go!"
Be There Or Be Square!-Attend or you'll be looked down upon
Can You Dig It-You Understand
Cool-o-roonie-something really cool
Down With.-meaning i understand,like,hey man,are you down with it?
For Sure-Usually pronounced "fer shure"; synonym for the gazillion other things meaning, you are correct, such as, right on, I'm hip, I dig, etc.
Gnarly-cool, awesome, very good
Jinkies-Sign of surprise, "Oh my god!", "Oh dear!"
Let's Boogie-Let's get going, or Let's dance
No Duh-A response to use when someone states the obvious
Psyched-Excited. "Hey I am so psyched about this concert."
Radical-cool,awesome,sweet. "that was RADICAL man."
Say What?-a short question usually used to indicate, that you don't believe something someone said; Hate to tell ya this kid, but you didn't win the contest. Say what?
Shotgun-Laying claim to the front seat
Totally-yeah;sure
Tubular!-way cool, awesome
What's Shakin'?-Casual greeting; equivalent to "What's Happening?", "How's it going?"

So I guess the kids now aren't really so different than we were!
