Hodgepodge

Welcome back to the Wednesday Hodgepodge! Be sure to add your link to the bottom of Joyce's post and then go visit the neighbors. After all, that's part of the fun!

1. Noah Webster was born this week back in 1758....besides the online version, do you own a dictionary?  Do you ever use the hardback copy or is your hunt for a definition strictly online these days? I do own a dictionary and I do sometimes still use it!
2.  Should public schools ban Halloween celebrations?  What about other holiday celebrations currently under fire?  I don't think so - it's just a fun holiday for the kids. I think people try to read too much into things sometimes.
3.  What's your favorite 'dog' movie?  The Shaggy Dog - the old one.

4.  When were you last somewhere you'd describe as 'too quiet'? It is too quiet at my parents house. Still does not seem right for my dad to be gone.

5.  Are you a neat cook or a messy cook?  In other words do you clean as you go or make a big mess and then deal with it later?  It depends on what I'm cooking. I make a terrible mess when frying green tomatoes or zucchini (but they're worth it). Normally I try to clean as I go.
6.  Did you hear about Felix Baumgartner, the skydiver who broke the sound barrier via parachute?  Was your first thought  COOL! or was your first thought CRAZY!  Are you adventurous? I have to go with CRAZY.
7.  What's not a word but should be? thingamabob
8.  Insert your own random thought here.I need to lose some weight but I just can't seem to get motivated. I'm not obese by any means but my wardrobe would probably double if I could just take off 15 pounds. Things are a tad "snug" right now and I'm all about comfort you know. I know I can lose if I try, have done it before - Does someone want to give me a "motivational" speech to get me going?

  2. If someone gives you a motivational speech, maybe they could give it to me as well. I've only put back on a few pounds ... but just enough that my clothes are fitting a little more snugly than I'd like. I've got to nip this in the bud because I refuse to go up a size! ;-)

  3. Thingamabob...I use it all the time! I can definitely relate to your answer for #4. When my mom passed away, my parents house was just so different. It changed my dad and the entire house filled with sorrow. It was hard to visit him after she died for that reason.

  4. I like the word thingamabob. :-) Are you sure it is not in the dictionary?

  5. Love thingamabob and I use it often! I've been swimming every day and have lost inches in my arms, waist, thighs and hips! I don't know if you like to swim, but it's helping me. I do have a lot to lose and am enjoying seeing the results. I feel so much healthier and have been more motivated to watch what I put in my mouth. I know it's important to get the weight off but, for me, it's more about my health and over all well-being. I'm sure you will be able to do it!! Go you!!!

  6. You can send the motivational speech this way after you give a listen. :) Just enjoying food a little too much right now.
    Have a great Wednesday!

  7. If I had a motivational speech, I wouldn't still be overweight. We usually say thingamajig. LOL Not sure what to say about the weight but I have several posts at my blog about the effort. Basically, you just have to make up your mind to do and then---do it. There's no secret. Unfortunately.

  8. I have decided I'm only a messy cook when flour and sugar are involved : ) I'm trying to lose a stubborn ten pounds too. Ugh. It's hard...I'm trying to be more diligent in exercising and I do watch what I eat. For me, eating isn't the problem as my diet is good. I need to exercise more. I do exercise, but I think in order to get rid of these few stubborn pounds I have to amp that up. I hate the gym so its a chore. Good luck!!

  9. "thingamabob" made me start singing heheheh.... You wanna thingamabo, I've got twenty. But who cares, no big deal. I want mmooorree....

    ~clears throat~ Sorry about that.

As for motivational speech, seems those moments come when you least expect it. I have been wanting to shed a few pounds for some time. Though everytime I would make an effort it seemed I would put more weight on. My five year old niece has became my inspiration to shed some of the pounds, would make it easier to keep up with her. Start with little things changes in diets, drink more water, and move about more than needed. Once I made little changes the weight has started to dropped unlike diving in trying to be all fitness and extreme. Best of luck.
