Coffee Chat

Time for the Coffee Chat! If you'd like to join, head over to Leslie's at Time out for Mom.

The topic is: Pro? or No?
Very, very difficult topic. I'm with Leslie in that I believe every woman has the right to choose if abortion is or is not right for herself. For me - I could never do it. My children mean everything to me and I can't imagine how anyone could have an abortion. But then again - what if...........
  • you knew the child would have some major development issues and may suffer their entire life?
  • you were homeless and had no way to support a child?
  • you were in an abusive relationship and was afraid your husband would abuse the child?
  • you became pregnant as a result of rape?
  • the pregnancy could cause risk to your life?
It's hard to say what one might do if they were put into some situations. For me personally, I wish more would consider adoption over abortion but it is still their choice. So am I pro-life or am I pro-choice? I don't know. Can I be both?

  1. All good questions -- they show what makes this topic so not as "black and white" as everyone thinks. Each person has to determine their own moral code in the answering.
You might choose to Not to abort in one situation, such as if you knew the child would have Down Syndrome or something; but if you were a victim of rape? Yea, you might choose to abort then. So certainly, you can be both ProLife and ProChoice.

Personally, I would always choose Life - regardless of any of the above variables. The difference is that I also choose to have compassion for those who find themselves in such difficult circumstances, instead of judging them for choosing differently than myself.
    Perhaps I am just ProPeople!
Thanks for joining the chat today and sharing your thoughts on such a hot topic.

  2. I already commented on another blog on this but I still say what is right for one isn't always right for another. Having children whom I adore & am so thankful for I also know the other side & I would never want for any women to have to stand in judgement for a choice that was heartbreaking in itself. I am BOTH!!

  3. Interesting to me how much all of us seem to think in similar ways about this. It just isn't that easy as right or wrong.

  5. Excellent post.

It's definitely a tough subject to discuss and even more so to defend your point because there are so many grey areas and contributing factors as to why you choose how you choose. For myself, Im Pro-Life; does that mean I condemn Pro-Choicers? Not in the least. I make the choices I can live with and that suit me.

It's our differences that make life beautiful, no matter how difficult the topic may be
