Pondering With a Purpose

Thursday again! Time to do a little "pondering" with Brenda from Ponderings of an Author.

Her rules are really easy:

1. Grab the Pondering with a Purpose Badge (in her sidebar)
2. Look at the week's prompt
3. Post something on your blog that relates to the prompt - it can be a story, a poem, a picture -- anything you want it to be.
4. Go back here and add the URL from your post to the linky list on Brenda's.
5. Go check out the other bloggers who have added their links to the list.
6. AND most of all.... Have fun!

This Week's prompt:              Devastation or displacement

I can only imagine what those people are going through. I have been through one tornado that left lots of destruction in it's wake. I was just a child but I remember it vividly. Thankfully, the house we were living in at the time was spared but many others were not so lucky. I remember my dad taking us out to see the damage and thinking that there was no way to clean it all up. It took months. There have been many tornadoes since then - I do live in Illinois - but none that severe. It's something you don't forget. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who must now face rebuilding their homes and lives.

  1. I was in Grand Forks, ND when the big flood happened there the spring of 1997. I thought the same thing, "How is this mess ever going to get cleaned up?" It took years, in some parts. Some areas never did rebuild, too close to the river. I can't imagine the confusion and turmoil those people are feeling.

  6. It is sad to see neighbors and friends put into such terrible situations. You just hope the community uses it as a rallying cry to come together.

  8. I was six when a huge flood hit our town (1975). I don't remember it, but my parents took pictures of it. It's shocking to see what the town looked like under so much water. I do not live to far from the current devastation and I am very, very sad about it.

  10. I also grew up and now live in areas where tornadoes are the greatest fear, along with prairie fires here. Thankfully, I have always been spared, but I know too well the damage and devastation that follows their path, and yes, the mess to clean up. I think the unpredictability, our lack of control, is what makes these things so frightening. We never know what life will bring, so we need to cherish each day for the gift it is.
