Pondering With a Purpose

It's Thursday! One of my favorite days. Time to do a little "pondering" with Brenda from Ponderings of an Author.

Her rules are really easy:

1. Grab the Pondering with a Purpose Badge (in her sidebar)
2. Look at the week's prompt
3. Post something on your blog that relates to the prompt - it can be a story, a poem, a picture -- anything you want it to be.
4. Go back here and add the URL from your post to the linky list on Brenda's.
5. Go check out the other bloggers who have added their links to the list.
6. AND most of all.... Have fun!

This Week's prompt:  Words with double meanings - Race

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of race is ethnicity and discrimination - which by the way - is so TOTALLY wrong. I have a hard time understanding why race is still an issue for some. Come on people, it's 2013. I would like to think that we could get past all that and just take people for what they are and what they believe in instead of how they look. We are a melting pot of people from everywhere. I myself have a heritage of Scot, Irish, and Cherokee and who knows what else. What race am I? I'm an American, that's what. Why does everything have to be about race? I hear that racism is more prominent in this country now than it has been in the recent past and I think - Is it racism or is it just politics? I do not like the current politics in this country but it has nothing to do with race. I don't care about your race. I do care about the country going down the tubes.

Sorry about the rant this morning - just had to.

  1. I love the rant this morning and I think that is probably the reason that was the meaning that first came to my mind as well. It is truly a shame that people just can't look past skin color and accept people for who they are! Seems like the 'race card' is played so much it is more like the joker...

  2. Interesting perspective. The black cat gets me every time on your site. Love it.

  3. I love the black cat :) And it could have been a white cat, or a red cat, and I would have loved it just the same :) Sorry, couldn't resist.

  4. I am 100% behind your rant!
I dared not to start on my own blog....there would have been no stopping. Racism drives me absolutely mad as a hatter.

    We are one race: human.

  6. Loved this! It's a pet peeve of mine hearing people say they are African-American, Irish-American, Italian-American or whatever. If you were born here and live here, you are an American, plain and simple. Get over it and quit trying to be something else!

  7. I am so with you on the subject of race when it comes to labels... you said it well for all of us! WHY is this still an issue? How can it still be possible? I am sometimes dumbfounded by the ignorant things I hear my fellow-Texans say when it comes to race, especially that of our President. Really? Is that what we are going to judge him by... his color rather than his conduct or his character? It drives me crazy too. We ALL belong to the human race... end of story!!
