Monday Quiz About Me

Based on the original Meet Me on Monday hosted by Java at Never Growing Old, Heather over at Acting Balanced  posts 5 questions on Sunday evening along with a linky for you to link up your post answers! Since Java is back , Heather has changed the name of her hop to "Monday Quiz About Me."

This weeks Questions:

1. What is your favorite Olympic sport? I guess if I have to pick one it would be swimming.
2. What is the healthiest meal you've eaten this week? Chef salad?

3. What is the unhealthiest meal you've eaten this week? Waffles with lots of butter and syrup made from my own blackberry jam.

4. What jewelry do you wear every day? The only thing I wear every day is a simple cross necklace. I have worn a cross since the day I discovered I was pregnant with my daughter - it's simply a part of me now.

And don't forget to add a 5th Question on your own blog so we can answer as we hop around!

5. My daughter texted me last week that she knew what she wanted for Christmas this year - a canner and extensive canning lessons. I was so proud! My little girl all grown up. What is the last thing that made you feel extra proud of your kids?

Porch Party Day 4

Patrice's party is coming to a close and I've had a great time. So has Kimmy.

Today's Question is:
4. You've had good food, your picture taken with Wendell, and you shook your bootie dancing. What would you like to do now? Would it be "me" time(and that's okay) or would you like to have some time with a friend?
I would love to sit in the porch swing and talk to a friend - a REAL talk - GIRL talk. Since my BF and I have both moved, I really miss being able to do this. We still talk on the phone but it is just not the same. There's nothing like talking to a friend that understands what you're going through, knows when to offer a cup of coffee - or a glass of wine; knows when to agree - and knows when to tell you what you don't want to hear; knows when to talk - and when to just sit and swing.

Porch Chat - Day 3

Day 3 for the party at Patrice's. I'm having  a ball and Kimmy says she never wants to come home! She wants to know if Patrice would mind having a Husky around all the time. (Don't worry though, I told her that I would miss her too much and she would have to come home with me when the party is over.)

Today's Question is:
3. What kind of music should we play at the party? Are there any particular dances you like?

That's an easy one for me! I'm a country girl - born and bread! And as far as dancing goes - is there anything other than the two step?

Pondering With a Purpose

Thursday again! Time to do a little "pondering" with Brenda from Fiction With a Purpose.

Her rules are really easy:

1. Grab the Pondering with a Purpose Badge (in her sidebar)
2. Look at the week's prompt
3. Post something on your blog that relates to the prompt - it can be a story, a poem, a picture -- anything you want it to be.
4. Go back here and add the URL from your post to the linky list on Brenda's.
5. Go check out the other bloggers who have added their links to the list.
6. AND most of all.... Have fun!

This Week's prompt:   Staring
When you stare off into the distance... what are you thinking about?

Truthfully, I do this quite often. I stare out the kitchen window every time I stand there and do dishes - a mindless task. I often find myself thinking of little landscaping things that I could do, wondering if it is ever going to rain again, or just thinking about my day.

Sometimes I think about my budget, and how to save enough to get me and daughter to England. Tonight as I was standing there staring out the window, my mind was on the trip daughter and I are planning this fall - just a trip down home but I was wondering how much this little trip would cut into my savings for the big one.

I go to bed at night and turn on the TV - but I don't often really watch it. I stare at it but my mind is elsewhere - on my kids, my grandson, my job, the pets, maybe a crochet project............. anything really.

Sometimes, when I read someone's post, I'll sit and reflect on it for a while. Brenda's are good at making me do that.

I stare into space all the time - but my mind is always working while I'm staring!

Porch Chat Party - Day 2!

Patrice's party is going to continue all week! Such fun!

Today's Question is:
1. Would you like to have your picture taken with Wendell at the party?

I would love to have my picture taken with Wendell and I'd be happy to wear a funny hat!  Kimmy says that she will also wear a funny hat and she's super excited about chasing the sheep.

Hodgepodge

Welcome back to the Wednesday Hodgepodge! Be sure to add your link to the bottom of Joyce's post and then go visit the neighbors. After all, that's part of the fun!
1. The Summer Olympics officially begin this Friday night...will you be watching? If you could see just one event in person which one would you pick? Son and dil are in England and they are going - I really don't care about any of the events but I'd love to be there just to see them and my amazing little grandson!

2.Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?Unproductive! I hate it when the day is over and it doesn't feel like I got anything accomplished.

3. July 25th is 'officially' Threading the Needle Day...can you sew? On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being not at all and 10 being Betsy Ross-like, how would you rate your skill with a needle and thread?I'd give myself an 8. I can sew but I'm not nearly as talented as some of the quilters out there.

4. 'Threading the Needle' can also mean to walk a fine line between two things or issues (think awkward social situation). When was the last time you had to 'thread the needle', figuratively speaking? I think I do just that all the time. It's part of the job that I have - we deal with lots of diversity, which can often be like threading a needle.

5. Kidney, pinto, black, or navy...your favorite bean? How about "green?" I'm not a huge bean person, but I love my own home canned green beans. Way back, when my dad was failing, I was traveling down home just about every weekend - 751 miles one way. I decided not to can that year, simply did not have time. I bought canned green beans that winter and my kids would not eat them. I ended up getting some home canned ones from a friend!

6. Have you ever hosted a garage sale? Was it more success or bust?I've had yard sales, but I don't think they're worth the trouble - I do love going to them though.

7. What makes you roll your eyes? Lots of things  - like the boys with their pants halfway down their "bottoms" and their underwear showing! Really! What is the point of that?

8. Insert your own random thought here.Summer class over! I'm free for a few weeks!

Chats on the Farmhouse Porch

It's time to head over to Patrice's porch for the weekly chat. Today she is having a party!

Question
1. What food would you bring with you to the party? Bring enough to share!

I would bring my Mexican Caviar and a big bag of Tostito Scoops. It's perfect for this hot weather, although Wendell may not like it!
Mexican Caviar
2 to 3 cloves garlic (the more the better)
2 cans rotel tomatoes/chilies
1 can chopped black olives (the small can)
3-4 green onions chopped
1 tbsp oil
2 tsp red wine vinegar
Pepper
Mix all ingredients together.  Let stand.  Better the second day – if it lasts that long.

Kimmy says she would love to come visit. She wants run through the fields and chase Wendell! She soooo misses being a country dog! She says she will bring Wendell one of her favorite bones!

Pandora says she must decline the invitation because she is, as everyone knows, the Queen and she is simply too delicate (or scared) to go outside.

Macy says she would love to come and romp through the fields with Kimmy and Wendell but she is too afraid of the strange "humans." Please don't feel bad though because she hides from all humans except for me and Biz.

1. What are your favorite pizza toppings? Sausage, black olives, peppers, and extra cheese.
2. What is the strangest name you've ever heard for a child? Xavier - the son of a friend named his son that - I think it's a little strange.
3. What is the best vacation you've ever gone on? Spring break way back in 1979 - Daytona, Clearwater and Tampa.
4. What is your favorite quick summer meal? Taco salad
And don't forget to add a 5th Question on your own blog so we can answer as we hop around!

My #5:I forgot my phone Friday and felt totally lost all day. First thing I did when I got to work was e-mail my kids to tell them if they needed me, they'd have to call work. My kids are 29 and 27 - and the 27 year old is in England! So my question is: Are you helpless without your phone?

Five Question Friday

Time to head over to Mama M's at My Little Life for 5 question Friday! But Mama isn't there today so Kate is hosting today!

Rules for 5QF: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky post to appear and LINK UP!
Questions for Friday, July 6th.
 1. What do you call them-flip flops, thongs, sandals, or slippers? Flip flops!
2. Are you a "my kids can do no wrong" kind of mom or a "Johnny punched you, well what did you do to him first?" kind of mom?
I was a little bit of both. I don't often get mad but do something to my kids and you'd have **** to pay!
3. Would you confront a friend that lookedk/looks down on your husband/significant other?
Yes, I would. I used to make excuses for my ex all the time - until I couldn't any more.
4. Biggest pet peeve?
People that act like they are better than you.
5.  What is your favorite take out meal?
Chineese - Cashew chicken from a local restaruant - it's awesome!

Have fun!

This Week's prompt: Extremes

There is no question about the fact that I would gladly give my life for my children - in a heartbeat. Wayne posed a great question about that though. Would they both suffer if you gave your life to save one? I don't know. I do know that it doesn't really matter. If faced with the situation, I personally, would have no choice - I would choose their life over mine.

Now as for pets - I love all three of my pets but I would not give my life for them. They definitely are a part of the family, but just not quite the same?

Hodgepodge

Welcome back to the Wednesday Hodgepodge! Be sure to add your link to the bottom of Joyce's post and then go visit the neighbors. After all, that's part of the fun!
1. The Summer Olympics begin next week and London is playing host. If you had the chance to go in person which (non-Olympic) London site would you most like to visit?
I really can't say on this one as I don't know the sites that are there.
2. What is something in your life right now that feels like an Olympic event?
Everything is really going pretty smoothly right now. If I had to pick something, I guess it would be the house remodeling - very slow process as I have to do it a little at a time as I can afford it.
3. What's your favorite supper to prepare and serve when it's too hot to cook?
Maybe a salad with either some chicken, turkey, or ham.
4. July 18th is National Get Out of the Doghouse Day...when was the last time you were 'in the doghouse'?
The only person who can put me in the doghouse is myself - well maybe that's not true. My kids can sort of "reprimand" me when they feel like it.

5. What television advertisement do you find particularly irritating or inappropriate? You may not answer with 'all of them'. I know some of you were thinking about it.
The Progressive Insurance commercials are so stupid they annoy me! Also the cable TV - "Don't fall into a dinner party" - those annoy me too.
6. Share one piece of interesting news from the year you were born.
Typhoon Georgia struck Japan, killing 137 people. Hitting Honshu Island, the typhoon caused the worst damage in history to Japan's rail lines. This happened on August 14, 1959 - the day I was born!
7. What's the best part of your average day?
In one word - COFFEE!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I am very late today (or tonight). I looked at the questions this morning and knew they were going to require some thought. Had tomatoes to can tonight so I had to do that first. Better late than never, right?

Chats on the Farmhouse Porch

  3. Nope - I led a very sheltered life as a child.

4. Other than the country you currently live in, where would you want to live?

And don't forget to add a 5th Question on your own blog so we can answer as we hop around!

Have fun!

This Week's prompt:  Respect
Respect to me means treating people the way you want to be treated. Honoring those that came before us, honoring those who gave their lives for this country, honoring life itself.

I was brought up to pull off the side of the road when a funeral possession went by. My dad said that it was a way of showing respect for the dead. I still do it but some people no longer bother. Why? Are we in such a hurry that we can't pause for a moment out of respect?

Another thing I learned from my dad was to stand at attention when a military convoy passes - like a guard unit on their way to drill. He would stand in the yard at full military attention - and made sure that we, as kids, stood still too. I don't recall seeing many other people do that and definitely not lately.

And what about putting your hand over your heart when the National Anthem plays. It irks me to see people walking around and talking through it.

Bowing your head during a prayer - another thing that annoys me (when people don't).

Respecting your elders - kids that make fun of elderly people, push in front of them, call them names. I have to admit that I sometimes get annoyed while driving or in a store and get behind an elderly person going very slowly. But I try to be patient and give them the room they need.

Plain and simple - respect - something we need more of both as individuals and as a country.

Hodgepodge

Welcome back to the Wednesday Hodgepodge! Be sure to add your link to the bottom of Joyce's post and then go visit the neighbors. After all, that's part of the fun!
1. How often do you check the weather? How do you check the weather?

I usually check the weather once in the afternoon and sometimes again when I get home - on the computer. I do also have alerts set for any weather alerts come to my phone.

2. Since this is Volume 84 of the Wednesday Hodgepodge, and since I got married in 1984, and since I'm attending a wedding this weekend, it only seems right to post something related here.

"Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance. If the dispositions of the parties are ever so well known to each other or ever so similar beforehand, it does not advance their felicity in the least. They always continue to grow sufficiently unlike afterwards to have their share of vexation; and it is better to know as little as possible of the defects of the person with whom you are to pass your life." Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

Agree or Disagree? Why?

I have to respectfully disagree. Happiness is not just a matter of chance, there are lots of things that come into play. About knowing someone making no difference - again I disagree. You can never know a person completely until you live with them.

3. Do you like to dance? Have you ever taken dance lessons?

I do like to dance although I'm not the best dancer in the world. The only lessons I have ever taken were "belly dancing" lessons I took way back in 1979!.

4. Fresh from the oven peach pie or homemade peach ice cream. Pick one.

Homemade peach ice cream.

5. Should people accept unfairness and learn to make the best of it?

I'm torn here. I believe we should make the best of the situations we find ourselves in, be it fair or unfair. I'm not one to wallow. On the other hand, if you see something that is unfair, I believe you should at least try to do something about it.

6. The top five all time summer blockbuster movies (released between May and August and grossing at least 100 million dollars) are Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars (the original), Ghostbusters, and E.T. Which one's your favorite?

I liked hem all. If I had to choose one it would be Jaws. That music still makes me jump.

7. If given the chance, would you like to visit the moon?

From someone who remembers the Apollo 1 fire and the Challenger disaster vividly, I will have to decline.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I'm taking the morning off today - have to go pick up the cat from the vet. It seems very strange to be sitting here at my home computer on a weekday morning. Most of my posts are made from the laptop, in the car, at work but before it's time to go in.

  2. Outdoor cookouts ar the best.
  3. I like all melons - don't really have a favorite.
  4. Yes, often during the summer months.
  5. I'd have to choose the day trips - don't like to burn a week's vacation all at once.

Rules for 5QF: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky post to appear and LINK UP!
Questions for Friday, July 6th.
 1. Is love at 1st sight possible? I think "attraction" is definitely possible at first sight but loves takes time to grow.

2. How did you choose your pet's name? Kimmy - I inherited from my son - he named her. Pandora - I've always loved the name and it's the first thing I thought of when I saw her. Macy - Biz named her - said she just looked like a Macy.

3. What are you considering giving up (cable, home phone)? I would love to give up the home phone but I can't get internet without it.

4. How much do you pay your babysitter? I can honestly say I never hired a babysitter. My kids did go to daycare when they were little but I never was comfortable leaving them with a sitter while I went out and had fun.

5. How "young" is old enough to babysit? I used to babysit - I think I started when I was around 14. I think it depends on the sitter and how responsible they are.
