Pondering With a Purpose

Thursday again! Time to do a little "pondering" with Brenda from Ponderings of an Author.

Her rules are really easy:

1. Grab the Pondering with a Purpose Badge (in her sidebar)
2. Look at the week's prompt
3. Post something on your blog that relates to the prompt - it can be a story, a poem, a picture -- anything you want it to be.
4. Go back here and add the URL from your post to the linky list on Brenda's.
5. Go check out the other bloggers who have added their links to the list.
6. AND most of all.... Have fun!

This Week's prompt:                Memories

I think that I am lucky to have actually lived the old way. I remember the coal stove in my granny's living room. I remember the outhouse. I remember making apple butter in a huge kettle outside over a fire. I remember the old wringer washing mashing. I remember the crank telephone that hung on granny's wall. I remember our first black and white TV. I remember two local channels. I remember cars with crank up windows and sitting in front of a fan, trying to cool off. Then there are the newer things - landlines, record players, the first Nintendo - better yet the Atari! Cable TV, air conditioning.........the list goes on.
I remember getting my first computer and then getting the internet at home. Thought we hit the big time then didn't we? Our cars now have built in navigation and heated seats.
Wow, the things that I have seen in my lifetime!

But are there personal memories? Of course there are although I'm not sure they would make for very exciting reading material.

  1. We don't visit museums anymore because we have actually used most of the stuff on display. It is great to take the grandchildren though.

  4. I think they would be great reading. I love looking at the old stuff of generations ago I think that is why antique stores still stay in business.

  6. I remember all that stuff at my grandparents house/farm. I can still smell pots of Irish stew keeping warm on the old black woodstove. or mulling wine/cider in the pot over the fire.
and waiting for big pans of dough to rise to make bread and buns.
And I think it would make for very interesting reading!

  8. I remember most of that stuff, too. The last 100 years or so brought lightening change didn't they? Oh, and don't forget space travel and moon landings...those were in our lifetimes, too. :)

  9. I had to explain to my 6 year old what a desk top computer was. He doesn't remember a world without a portable computer.
