Hodgepodge

Welcome back to the Wednesday Hodgepodge! Be sure to add your link to the bottom of Joyce's post and then go visit the neighbors. After all, that's part of the fun!

This week's questions:

1. Lake Superior University has once again published a list of words/phrases they think should be banished from the Queen's English...here's the list for 2013-

fiscal cliff, kick the can down the road, double down, job creators/creation, passion/passionate, yolo (an acronym for you only live once), spoiler alert, bucket list, trending, superfood, boneless wings, and guru
Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why. Go here to read more about how the words were chosen.Superfood - I don't go for all the hype - just give me plain old food - guess I'm just a country girl when it comes to food.
2.  When was the last time you rode a train?  Where did you go? I can honestly say that I have never been on a train.

3. Bagels-yay or nay?  Favorite 'flavor'?  Favorite topping? Bagels are ok once in a while - with cream cheese.

4.  'Tis the season of awards shows...if you could star in a movie already made which one would you choose? Not that much of a movie buff so I really have no idea about any new ones but Gone With the Wind would be a great movie to be in.

5. The move towards single gender classrooms has been making the news in recent months....what say you?  Do you think kids perform better if seperated by gender and are taught differently or is that discrimination?  If you're a parent, is this something you'd support in regard to your own children? That sounds like segregation to me - can't see any reason why to separate kids.

6. What's your favorite thing about staying in a hotel? Having someone else clean.

7. Do you have a 'word' for 2013?  What's the story behind your choice? Maybe accomplishment - because I hope to accomplish a lot this year.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.I'm off to the doctor today. Insurance changed providers so I had to choose a new primary care provider. I don't do doctors often and even though I have the flu right now, today's visit will just be the initial "hi, here's my information" visit.

  1. I rode a train from Illinois to New Jersey when I was 18 about 100 years ago. :-)
