Chats on the Farmhouse Porch

It is once again time to head over to Patrice's from Everday Ruralty for our weekly chat.

This Week's Questions:
  1.  Tell me a fond memory of an elderly person?
  2. What's your favorite flavor of jam or jelly?
  3. What goes through your mind when you drive by one of those whopping, huge houses that look like something in a magazine?
  4. What's your favorite way to relax?
  5. What's your favorite kind of pasta?
My answers:
  1. I have lots of fond memories of my grandmother. Everyone called her Granny. She had Indian blood and did things the old way. I remember stirring apple butter in a huge kettle outside over a fire with what looked like the oars from a boat. I remember her coming after us kids with a broom if we were swinging too high on the old porch swing. I remember her chewing "snuff" - really! There are simply too many memories to choose just one.
  2. I love to make jams and jellies but don't often eat them. I make lots of flavors and am always looking for new ones. My hot pepper jam is one that is most often requested by friends.
  3. I wonder how they manage to clean it - and how much their heating/cooling/light bills are.
  4. I love to get comfy and curl up with a book or with my crochet hook.
  5. I love pasta. I guess my favorite would be my own homemade noodles.

  1. My great grandmother dipped snuff too. Isn't that funny.
    I liked your answers today.

    1. It wasn't that uncommon in TN, I can remember Granny sitting on the porch "visiting" with the neighbor woman - both of them with their snuff!

  2. It's funny how I'm reading about other's memories of their grandmothers with the snuff habits. My grandpa use to chew tobacco. What a nasty habit! It use to gross me out so badly as a kid. He chewed that horrible stuff up until he passed away last September. As much as I disliked that habit, there are worse ones to have.

  3. My grandmother didn't dip, but my grandad loved his Red Man chewing tobacco and nickel cigars! And I think hot pepper jam sounds yummalicious! Thanks for stopping by Janie's Porch and commenting today! Always nice to meet another "empty nester".

  4. Funny, I never think about cleaning those houses. But I guess if you can afford the taxes and all, you can afford someone to clean for you.

  5. Your Granny sounds as spirited as mine! I love homemade noodles too! I bet the taxes on those big houses are something. I wouldn't want to pay them!
    Have a great week!
