Scratch – make mark, tear skin, make
scraping movement, make harsh noise, relieve itching, product scraping sound
from record, cause itching, drag along surface, write with sharp instrument,
pen quickly, delete, cancel, search aimlessly, withdraw from competition, incur
penalty, make fluke shot, just get by
I think this one is the winner for
the most definitions, seventeen in all. But I knew all of these! My first
thought when I think of the word scratch – probably #17. I’ve been scratching
out a living for a long time and will (hopefully) continue to do so for some
time to come. I truly believe that some of us were not meant to be wealthy and
that’s ok with me. As long as the bills are paid and I can put food on the
table – it’s all good!

you are probably right about the wealth thing--but i keep hoping it just hasn't been my time yet :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful "S" post - and I really liked your definition! Money is only vital to provide the basic comforts and if one earns it while enjoying a passion then it's like getting paid to have fun. I love working (at my passion) and will do so until I drop.
ReplyDeleteWealth is an interesting word...you should use it in "W" I'd love to see your definitions of it!

Gosh, I thought you were getting a tattoo at first.
ReplyDeleteScratching out a living is not the easiest thing. Having enough to pay the bills is better, though.
S is for sympathize, too...and I do. But love & happiness cannot be bought.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely have those. Your priorities are straight. :-)
I try to be content scratching out a living, but sometimes I'm not.

My financial goal in life is to be comfortable. To not worry about food, or clothes, or shelter, and to be able to replace or fix something when it breaks or wears out without stressing over where the money will come from. We're almost there. :) I hope to scratch out a living freelancing and be able to help us get there a little faster.
